Learning Radar

生而知之者,上也;學而知之者,次也;困而學之,又其次也;困而不學,民斯為下矣 - 孔子

Growth is not knowledge acquisition. Learning starts with curiousity, whether reading books and/or articles, bouncing ideas with peers. Mastery involves trying and getting feedback through failures and challenges. I have compiled a learning radar to map and track professional mastery. The topics are categorised in competency areas and lifecycle:

  • Professional Competency Areas
    • Corporate Citizenship is taking responsibility for contributing to industry and company culture by actions, living out professional values, demonstrating leadership and modeling social responsibility.
    • Role Excellence is the building block of job essentials. Growing and expanding self role to take on new experience and greater responsibilities, accountabilities and complexity for impact.
    • Technical Excellence is the technical abilities to meet the role requirements, a combination of technical strategy, knowledge and skills, and application in conversations, situations and scenarios.
    • Business Acumen is the keenness and quickness in understanding and dealing with a business situation in a manner that is likely to lead to a good outcome.
  • Learning Lifecycle Stages
    • Investing - feel strongly that the industry should be adopting these items, and apply them when appropriate in engagements.
    • Emerging - researching and learning with the view to invest and build them up, adopt in engagements that can handle the risk.
    • Evaluating - assessing and exploring to attest them against development roadmap, experimenting with internal engagements.
    • Archiving - retiring time-proven and/or low-valued items, and pivot to newer things.
